Barrett R. Peterson was born on September 1, 1944 in Hemet, California to Elmo and Juanita (nee Lovreglio) Peterson. He died on July 16, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Barrett moved to Illinois when he was three years old. His education included Grades 1st – 8th at Ogden Elementary School; Graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1962; attended University of Illinois at Navy Pier from 1962 – 1964; and also attended University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana from 1964 – 1968 graduating with a B.S. in Accounting.
Barrett started working at Arthur Anderson Accounting Firm in 1968 and retired from TTX in 2017. He had a variety of increasing responsible corporate roles in the intervening years. From 2017 to the present, he was the primary at his consulting firm, Antikythera Consulting Firm LLC .
He was a member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago where he was confirmed as well as being Ordained as a Deacon. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights, for forty-four years where he served as an Ordained Deacon and Elder. In addition, he was also a Trustee member and President, Church Treasurer, Stewardship Committee Chair and member as well as Endowment Fund Committee member and Chair.
Barret was also very involved in his community where he was a Community Consolidated School District 21 – Board of Education member from 1984 – 1996 and a school board president for 9 years. He was also a Cub Scout Leader, Park District Basketball Coach, Baseball Coach, Soccer Coach, First Presbyterian Church Boys Basketball Coach, Buffalo Grove H.S. Feeder Team Scheduled Referees and participated in Indian Guides and Indian Princesses with his children.
He belonged to the following Professional Financial Organizations: FEI – Financial Executive Institute, ICPA – Illinois CPA Society (where he was Chapter President and Treasurer), AICPA-CIMA – American Institute of Certified Public Accountants-Certified Institute of Management Accountants as well as the FLA-Financial Leaders Association.
He dedicated his life to helping others. He loved hunting for agates, lighthouses by Lake Superior, antiquing and finding unique wood working artists.
Barrett was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was very proud of and cared deeply for his family. He was a great caring friend of many.
Barrett is survived by his wife of 52 years Corinne Lois Peterson (nee Hansen); his children Erik Warren Peterson (Courtney Bledsoe), Brian Barrett Peterson (Madeline) and Kari Lois VanEck (Brandon). His grandchildren Logan and Taylor Peterson, William Peterson, Sawyer Peterson, Lydia VanEck, August VanEck and Sydney Peterson; his sister Sharon (David) Farb; his brother Kenneth (Gretchen) Peterson his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Carol Hansen; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Juanita (nee Lovreglio) and Elmo Peterson, as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law Warren and Lois (nee Beese) Hansen.
Memorial Visitation on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 10:00am until the time of the Memorial Service at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights 302 North Dunton Avenue, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
Private interment has taken place.
