Mrs. Hallie Gilbreth Myers, age 81, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011.
Hallie was born September 13, 1929 to Carl and Ella Walker Gilbreth in Guilford County. She graduated from Allen Jay High School and later received degrees in English and Business Administration at High Point University. She received her Masters of Education in Business Education, Supervision and Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also studied at Appalachian State University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She was a lifetime member of Fairfield United Methodist Church where she served on many committees. She had served as Chairman of the Pastor-Parish Committee, Chairman of the Education Committee and taught Sunday school for several years. She was named a Lay-Person of the year in 2007. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women having served as president of the United Methodist Women at Fairfield as well as High Point district where she was president. She served on the conference level also. She has held many committees in the High Point District including serving as a district trustee.
She was a member of the Lambda Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Society for Women’s Education, the Zeta Chapter of Delta Pi Epsilon, Business Education Fraternity. She was named outstanding business woman of the year by the North Carolina Future Business Leaders of America. She was named to the Business Hall of Fame and named High Pointer Personality of the week. Was a member of Greensboro and High Point Administration and Management Society and had served as advisor/member to the Guilford Technical Community College. She taught at Sumner High School, Allen Jay High School, Southern Guilford High School and early in her education career at Guilford College. She retired from Guilford County Schools as a Vocational Director working specifically as Supervisor of Business and Marketing Education. She retired from the Guilford County School system with 42 year’s service after which she worked at Atrium Furniture Mall for ten years.
She was married November 19, 1960 to Paul Bundy Myers. She loved her family, her son was her pride and joy and she was compassionate and firm in her belief.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bundy Myers. She is survived by her son, Paul “David” Myers and his wife Robin and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Home of the Piedmont in her memory at 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
