May 8, 1985 - September 1, 2023
Aubrey Elyse Mason, affectionately known as “Brey,” passed away on September 1, 2023, in Jacksonville, NC, at the age of 38. Born on May 8, 1985, in Monterey Park, CA, Brey lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a generous spirit that touched the hearts of many.
Brey’s journey was one of resilience and determination. Despite facing health challenges that led to her being on disability for the past year and a half, she found joy and purpose in her work within the concert venues industry. Her ability to connect with others and her positive energy made her an invaluable asset to those around her
She was exceptionally intelligent, earning a place on the Dean’s list during her college years, showcasing both her brilliance and compassion. Her infectious humor and selflessness endeared her to strangers and friends alike, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.
With a passion for country music and a deep faith in the Lord, Brey’s heart was always full of joy. In December 2022, she experienced a profound moment when she was baptized, further strengthening her spiritual connection.
In her free time, Brey indulged in various hobbies that brought her joy. She loved coloring, using it as a therapeutic escape from stress, which then turned into a ministry of laminated bookmarks of these colorings, she added a tassel and each one had a scripture verse on it; she’d put them in the coffee area at church, secretly, for people in her large church to grab for their Bible. Her crafts were nothing short of impressive, meticulously creating gifts that conveyed her heartfelt sentiments to the recipients.
She was a pretty good dart player, entering in competitions and winning often. Aubrey began to play soccer when she was just five years old. She played, every year, two teams a year, (season), until she played in college. She also played Club Soccer for two years at the same time and was scouted. She began coaching soccer and coached 3 teams in 2022/23.
She also loved to sing Karaoke. Brey’s vibrant spirit shone through her love for singing even after the doctors predicted she had only two weeks to live in 2022, she fearlessly belted out tunes, inspiring others and blessing all who heard her.
Possessing a heart of gold, Brey consistently prioritized the well-being of others above her own. She touched more lives than she will ever know, and her giving only continues on beyond her passing as she was an organ donor, wanting to help any person she possibly could.
Brey’s capacity to love knew no bounds. She cherished her family deeply, including her father, David Warren Terhune, her mother, Linda Laycook Anthis, and her devoted husband, Nicholas M. Mason. Her five tiny canine companions were also an integral part of her life, receiving an abundance of love and care.
She leaves behind a large extended family, including numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom were touched by her boundless kindness. Brey’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Celebration of Brey’s Life and Luncheon will take place on October 7, 2023, at 12:00 pm at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley, California. This gathering will be a testament to the impact she had on the lives of others and an opportunity to honor her memory.
In her passing, Brey has left behind a void that can never be filled. Her light, her love, and her giving nature will be sorely missed. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing how deeply she was loved and how greatly she will be remembered.
