Ross "Earl" Meadows Sr, 88 of Tangerine passed away on December 30 at home. He was born to the late Ross & Margaret Meadows on February 4, 1928 in Akron, OH. He attended East High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served on the US Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw for 2 years. Earl was a resident of Stuart, Fl for 45 years and later relocated to the Mt Dora area where he resided for the last 16 years. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years of employment. After retirement, Earl and his wife Billie had a flourishing antique business where the made more friends than they did money. Earl was predeceased by his daughter, MarDee Lynn Meadows and his son Ross Earl Meadows Jr. He is survived by his wife, Billie Meadows whom they shared a 66 year love story that included laughter, love, and family. He is also survived by his daughter Keri Meadows of Temple, Ga, 7 grandchildren and 14 great grand children. Earl leaves behind a legacy of humor, joke telling, and a love all sports especially football and softball. Earl was a die hard fan of the Miami Hurricanes and the Miami Dolphins. He played softball for many years in multiple leagues until he was 77 years old. He coached little league, peanut league, rotary, and also started the first organized women's softball league in Martin County. Earl had a passion for reading westerns by Louis L'Amour, watching old cowboy movies, listing to LP records, working crossword puzzles, and was an avid letter writer. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 7 at 2pm, at Trimble Park in Mount Dora. Please bring memories to share and wear your favorite sports team shirt.
