When Peggy was 13 her mother passed away and extended family and church members assisted Peggy's father in her care, this support given by church members would be extended to many others by Peggy her entire life.
Peggy received her high school education in three years and graduated from Shenandoah Valley Academy on May 9, 1948, her 17th birthday.
In July of 1948, Peggy married Tinker Fowler and the following June, Cindy was born. Barry joined the family 4 years later. Peggy took care of children in her home to supplement the family's income.
