Marie Francis Gagnon, age 89, of Apopka, Florida passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2022. Marie is survived by her four daughters, Catherine Wein and her partner Gary Tibbitts of Lakeland, Florida, Kim MacAllister and husband Tim of Ocoee, Florida, Denise Hoff and husband Jeff of Polk City, Florida, and Dawn Santo and husband David of Apopka, Florida. Marie is also survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Marie was born on September 8, 1932 to the late John and Beatrice (Vice) Mendes of Provincetown, Massachusetts, and sister to the late Anthony and David Mendes. Born in Lowell in 1932, she moved to Provincetown when she was a young girl, where Marie lived for many years. Through her young adult years, Marie had many jobs including working for the JOBI shop (now HIghland Light). She then worked at the Highland House as a bartender and chambermaid. Later, Marie worked at the North Truro Air Force Base, where she met her late husband, Gilbert Gagnon. A few years later, she and Gil moved their family to Casselberry, Florida where she began her career working for the Orlando Sentinel until she retired.
Her most renowned passion was her love of cruising. She spent as much time as possible enjoying life on the high seas; and, fell in love with sloths and John Denver music (and a good drink every now and then).
Marie will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. She was known for her big personality, great sense of humor, kindness, and many creative talents. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the Gagnon Family invites you to make a donation in her name to St. Jude Children's Hospital (link below).
Condolences may be offered here in the online guest book.
