JR Harper, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, in Apopka, Florida, at the age of 92. Born on May 19, 1932, in Chestnut, Louisiana, JR led a life rich in faith, family, and community.
For over 62 years, JR served as a deacon, first at Forrest Avenue Baptist Church in Apopka and later at Northside Baptist Church in Chuluota. His unwavering commitment to God and his church was a cornerstone of his life, reflecting his deep faith and love for his community.
JR was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth Harper, his parents, Grady and Thelma Harper, and his brother, LG Harper. He is survived by his devoted children, Jack Harper (Donita) and Janice Talley (Tim), who carry forward his legacy of love and kindness.
He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Lori Furoy (Marc), Jackie Harper (Renae), T.J. Talley (Fab), Jordan Harper (Christy), Grady Harper, Kati Meek (Temple), and Jacob Talley (Ileigh), and as a great-grandfather to Connor Talley, Kylee Talley, Eden Harper, Liam Furoy, Logan Furoy, T Meek, Eva Meek, Willow Harper, James Harper, Cole Talley, Nolan Talley, and Emilia Meek. His family was his greatest joy.
JR worked as a payroll accountant at Plymouth Citrus Growers Association, where he was respected for his dedication and work ethic. A lifelong learner, he was an avid reader of western novels and history books, often immersing himself in the pages of a good book. He also enjoyed puzzle books, country music, and fishing, finding peace and fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life.
Those who knew JR will forever remember his warm spirit, generous heart, and unwavering faith. He was a man of quiet strength, always ready with a kind word, a helping hand, or a gentle smile. His impact on his family, friends, and community will continue to be felt for generations to come.
A visitation for J.R will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 601 N Park Ave, Apopka, FL 32712.
