Alice (aka Granny Alice) was born March 19, 1933, in Willsboro, NY to Michael and Margaret Kehoe. She graduated high school from St. John’s Academy, June 1950 and State University College at Plattsburgh, NY in June 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in School Nurse-Teacher Education. She also held a Master of Science in Education from SUNY Plattsburgh, 1958, and a Master of Science in Nursing from Russell Sage College, 1986. Alice was certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1986 by the American Nurses Association. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the Honor Society of Nursing, as well as the American Nurses Association at the national, state and district levels. She served on the Board of Directors of the Clinton-Essex County American Red Cross. Alice retired as Associate Professor Emeritus from State University College, Plattsburgh, New York with 30 years of employment and service in 1995.
Alice was pre-deceased by her husband of 57 years, David F. Champagne, Jr. She was also pre-deceased by her parents and a brother, Michael J. Kehoe. She is survived by her seven children: Karen Dayan (Bernard), Suzanne McColl, David F. Champagne, III (Kathleen), Angela Champagne, Lucy Champagne, Paul Champagne (Stacy) and Kevin Champagne. Alice also had fourteen grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Upon retirement in 1995 Alice and Dave moved to Beverly Hills, Florida. Alice was active with Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church serving in the health and music ministries as well as the liturgy committee of the parish. They both enjoyed their membership and golfed at Twisted Oaks Golf Club. Alice moved to Lakeview Terrace in 2015 and made many friends while living there. She was active in the choir at St. Mary of the Lakes church, Eustis, FL as well as all musical activities at Lakeview Terrace. She was a beautiful singer her entire life and sang in the Christmas choir just this Christmas.
Alice cherished family, friends, and neighbors throughout her life. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle master and knitter. Her family and friends have many hand-knit mittens, scarves, hats, socks, and blankets to cherish. She stayed close with many friends over many years.
Services for Alice will be held Friday, February 2nd at 10 am at St. Mary of the Lakes church in Eustis, Florida. A private ceremony for the family will follow at Florida National Cemetery.
