He was born on March 19, 1948 in Reading, PA to Alice & William Finn, raised by Alice (Finn) & adoptive father, Guy Wertz and grew up in Memphis, TN. He was formerly married to Mary Deborah Wertz of Cary, NC.
Billy was a life-long salesman with passions in clothing & textiles, medical equipment, and industrial chemicals. Even when asked what he likes to do for fun he would say “Sales, of course”.
He worked for several companies throughout his career. His first love in sales was with Arrow, followed by Collier’s and Saturdays. His most recent work was with United Labs.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes early on in Raleigh and most recently a member of Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh, NC.
He had great passions and love for his family, most importantly his two children, Allison and Ryan. He loved coaching and playing basketball and supporting his children’s sporting admirations.
He was preceded in death by his biological father, William Finn, mother, Alice Wertz, adoptive father,Guy Wertz and his beloved son, Ryan Christopher Wertz. He is now with his boy in heaven.
He is survived by his daughter, Allison McElroy, son-in-law Richie McElroy, brother Peter Wertz, sister in law Becky Wertz, brother Michael Wertz, sister in law Wanda Wertz and their children, Alex, Andy, Michael Jr, and Telicia Wertz.
‘ O glorious St Christopher, you have inherited a beautiful name, Christ bearer, as a result of the wonderful legend that while carrying people across a raging stream you also carried the Child Jesus. Teach us to be true Christ- bearers to those who do not know him.’
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 23rd at 11am at Apex Funeral Home in Apex, NC.
