Van, a native of Wisconsin, was born on August 15, 1946, to the late, Van Tharp Sr. and Euleta Webb Tharp. Dr. Tharp was one of the world’s top trading coaches and the founder of the Van Tharp Institute. He is the author of 12 books including a New York Times bestseller. Through the Van Tharp Institute Van shared his mission of transforming lives through a trading metaphor. He is a founding father of the trading psychology field. Van was also a trading concept innovator, a brilliant teacher, and a humble leader. He had a keen, creative mind and a singular ability to be authentic in each moment. He was a loving husband, father, and friend to many.
Aside from his career, Van loved to travel. He had visited all 50 states and he traveled internationally several times each year. He bungee jumped in Australia and submerged under the ocean in Fiji. He could never get enough of cruises, tours, or driving trips across the United States in his Tesla. Van loved the excitement of Las Vegas and always hit the biggest musical shows while there. He loved music and very few people knew how much he loved to dance. Van was also a dog lover, and a genealogy enthusiast (he learned he was related to Abe Lincoln and Daniel Boone). Van was a collector. He has a magnificent art collection, was a stamp collector and a historical documents collector.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Keitha Mae Tharp.
He is survived by his wife, Kalavathi Tharp; his son Robert Eric Tharp and his niece Nanthini Arumugam and her husband Brenden Green.
