Terry was born on August 5, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Augustine and Martha Elborne. She was the oldest of four siblings. She wanted to be a secretary, but her father told her he would get her a job in the grocery store as the union paid more money. This would be a truly fortunate part of Terry’s story because it was there, at the A&P grocery store in Swissvale, PA, that she met her husband Don. It was love at first sight. She would always say that aside from being very handsome, one of her favorite things about Don was his sense of humor and that he was always playing pranks on her. They were married on September 5, 1960. They had three girls in four and a half years; Donna, Laura, and Marlene; and 12 years later, they were excited to welcome a son, David, into the family. They lived in a great neighborhood, were involved at church, and had many wonderful years surrounded by lots of extended family and friends.
After the girls were grown, Terry, Don, and David moved to Florida where the weather is so much warmer. For more than 10 years, Terry worked at Disney World in Guest Services. Thanks to her job with Disney, the entire family, including grandchildren, were able to create lasting fun memories in Disney World. Often, on their days off, Terry and Don would make their way to Disney to have an adventure, just the two of them.
Once David was grown, Terry and Don moved to Apex, NC, close to their youngest daughter, Marlene, and her family. There they enjoyed being grandparents to Jenna and Garrett, often attended their soccer, lacrosse, cross country, and football games. Later, David joined them in NC where he met and married his wife, Rachel. With Donna and Laura out of state and Terry’s love for travel, she also enjoyed the opportunity to experience family trips to St. Thomas, the Grand Canyon, and Walt Disney with them.
After the love of her life passed away, Terry resolved to continue to make the best of life. She started working out with a trainer, went to the gym or took long walks most days of the week. She learned mahjong and enjoyed time with friends playing the game. She was always up to go out to lunch, see movies with friends (typically a romantic comedy), or just stay at home and watch the Hallmark Channel or a medical mystery. She was an avid reader and loved sitting on her beautiful screened porch to enjoy nature in the backyard (squirrels) and time with her neighbors and friends.
Terry was a great example of strength and resilience. She made the best of whatever situation was presented to her. She found joy in the simple things but was especially proud to experience more “29th birthday” celebrations than anyone she knew. She taught herself to sew and loved to oil paint. She is responsible for the treasured family recipes for Homemade Mac and Cheese and Tuna Noodle Casserole. She enjoyed being a Mom and took great pleasure in being a Grandma. She often felt “cool” and “hip” because of the nicknames her grandkids gave her: G.T. (Grandma Terry) and G.G.T. (Great-Grandma Terry).
In addition to her parents and her loving husband of 45 years, Don, she is preceded in death by her brother, Edward Elborne; her grandson, Samuel Carter and great-grandchild, Baby K.
She will lovingly be remembered by her three daughters, Donna Widmaier and husband Ken, Laura Carter and husband Scott, Marlene Lang and husband Mark; her son, David Weber and wife Rachel; her nine grandchildren, Zach Matuscin, Carah Kablick and husband Stan, Ken Widmaier, Lauren Widmaier, Jenna Lang, Garrett Lang and wife Haley, Nick Widmaier, Nathan Carter, and Caleb Carter; her great- granddaughters, Liza Kablick and Ramey Lang (expected in November); her brother, Joseph Elborne and wife Helen; her sister, Mary Cornell and husband Steve and her sister-in-law, Sherri Elborne.
A small private memorial funeral mass will be held for family on Thursday, October 15, 2020 in the chapel at Saint Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Transitions Lifecare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607; or online: transitionslifecare.org/donate. Her family will always be grateful for the loving care the staff at Transitions LifeCare provided in the most difficult of days.
