Sue Suggs Davis, 62, passed away Thursday evening, September 3, 2015 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Born on March 23, 1953 in Okinawa, Japan while her father was in the military; she was the daughter of Edwin and Mary Brown Suggs, of Jacksonville, NC.
Sue loved children with an unbridled passion and was an elementary teacher for many years. She even continued teaching students as a tutor following her retirement. One of her favorite pastimes was reading books to her “grandbabies”. She also enjoyed working on projects with her husband and tending to her garden. She grew some of the most amazing things! Sue’s ministry was knitting prayer shawls; she prayed over them as she knit and gave them to cancer patients, young and old. One of her favorite shawl deliveries was to the Neonatal ICU unit at the Naval hospital. Sue’s favorite exercise was having her dog, Harley, pull her along on her bicycle. She loved music and dancing, no matter the place! She inspired everyone with her courageous spirit, and she celebrated life in a way that made you more wonderful just by knowing her.
She is lovingly remembered by her parents; by her husband of 41 years: W. Leander Davis, of Jacksonville; her children: Christopher Robin Davis and wife Michelle, of Holly Springs, Jesse Lee Davis and wife, Celena, of Holly Springs, and Brandi Denise Davis, of Jacksonville, NC; by her treasured grandchildren: Seth, Luke and Eli Davis and Zane and Maya Davis; by her brothers and sister: Kenny Suggs and wife, Angie, Jeff Suggs, Steve Suggs, and Tempi Bryan and husband Council; and by her other family, friends and former students.
A Celebration of Sue’s Life will be held at Verona United Methodist Church (110 Town Point Rd, Jacksonville, NC) on Thursday, September 10th at 2pm. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Verona Volunteer Fire Department.
