So sorry to hear of Sid's passing.  I worked with Sid at IBM for many years.  Our  thoughts and prayers are with his family.

There are things that we don't want to happen but have to accept, things we don't want to know but have to learn, and people we can't live without but have to let go.  God spede Sid.

I worked with Sid as a coworker at IBM and I am proud to call him a friend. He was a great manager and a great individual who truly cared about people. You will be deeply missed my friend. Virginia, Kevin, my sincerest condolences and God bless.

As a young IBM CE, Sid was my mentor in "Sid's Copier Shop". What a friend he became over the years. What an awesome manager...they don't make'em like that him any more. I'll never forget our time at IBM, the lake, and those day trips to Sugar Mountain. I feel like I've lost a brother. Love you Sid.

 Sid was is the 82nd. In the airborne, when you reach up and pull down on a specific strap or cord while under canopy (to steer or turn the chute), we call that "slipping" or "pulling a slip". You can pull a slip gently, or yank the heck out of it, based on how hard you need to change course. The phrase kind of permeates into daily life and sayings in the airborne community. For instance, when you see someone trying to leave silently and swiftly without people noticing, they're "pulling a slip".On a jump, when you are about to crash into another person on the way to the ground, you are supposed to "slip away" from that person. Whenever someone asks an open ended question like "if you see yourself drifting toward a body of water... immediately try to..." the answer is always "slip away". On average a paratrooper says "slip away" 5 or 10 times a day in some way/shape/form. There is an old saying in the 82nd., "old paratroopers never die, they just slip away". Virginia, you have my deepest sympathy for your loss. I remember Sid from our days at Red's and The Patio beach music venues. I always admire Sid for his humor and his enjoyment of life. Just remember all the joyous times you had with him which will give you a smile on your face.

It is such a comfort to read all the messages and to know that my old high school friend made such an impact on so many.Sidney was always a gentleman and I will always remember the fun we had on snow days in Franklin and Granville Counties. Good job Sidney! Prayers to the family and to Dianne.

Great Memories of Sid particularly the Stonewood Days. Seeing Sid always meant you were going to Smile and Laugh.He obviously accomplished many things professionally and athletically but his greatest legacy was being a Good Person. We are so shocked that Sid is gone. We met him on Monday afternoons at the IBM gym. He made us feel like wimps. Life is not fair.

Sid was a workout partner for a number of years at IBM and a lunch partner for longer.  He allowed me to give no excuses and he demonstrated by example.  I looked up to him and many that know me have heard me repeat many lines learned from Sid.  Many will miss him for sure and I'm certainly one.

Sid was a dear neighbor in our Yorkshire Downs  neighborhood for many years. My best friend, Donna,( also a neighbor), and I would see him almost daily on our walks. He loved rhe creek in his front yard, which also flowed into the greenway. We would visit, and look for " Mr Snake", our shared wild pet for a season. Sid had a great dry sense of humor, and we missed him when he moved. Still, it was a gain for him because he met and married Virgina, a wonderful person, so all were happy. He and Virginia always came back to our neighbor, Till's, annual oyster roast, a loved event to many of us. Sid shucked countless oysters for myself and many others, and never seemed to tire from making us very happy, tons of fun! I / we are so sad that Sid is no longer with us. We will always have fun, happy memories of Him. Our deepest condolences go out to Viginia, and both families. George and Lisa Kane.

Sid and I became friends through the IBM Gym, he would rib me to no end regarding my rather loud tee shirt. Every time I'd wear it he'd say "Argh my eyes" when he'd see me. I am in Scotland right now and wore my "Argh my eyes" tee shirt to the gym here in memory of Sid, a wonderful man.

Met Sid at the neighborhood pool in 1981. we became friends and started jogging and running races together with Jerry and Tom and others. ran 10ks, half marothons, triathlons together. Trained for years with Sid. he was a good man with a big heart. Very sorry to see him go.

I worked with Sid for several years at the Raleigh IBM branch office.  My most memorable memory of Sid is from a branch office kickoff meeting in the early '80's.  Sid played the role of Elwood Blues, replete with dark suit, white shirt, hat, skinny black tie and....sunglasses of course.  Another field manager played the role of Joliet Jake.  They performed the church scene dance routine from the "Blues Brothers" movie.  Sid played his role to perfection!  He will be missed by all!

I knew Sid from IBM and the playing field. What an Athlete! When I first met him, his physique was unbelievable, when he took up running he lost some weight. What a great guy, I had many fun times with him in Bldg. 602.

I have known Sid and his sons for over 30years and I will miss him very much.

I still cannot believe this and keep thinking about the last night I saw you at Robin's Christmas party - I wished we would have talked more that night. Virginia and Kevin - I am so very sorry for your loss. Sid got me into biking and I only wished I would have biked more with him.

Worked with Sid in 1970 then Sid went to CE school. Saw Sid through the years at RTP. Sid was serious and sometimes funny with a dry wit and sly smile. Good man. He came to Wendell several years back and we went shooting with another IBM'er.
