Scott Abbott Monroe, 54, died Sunday, September 25, 2011. He was born September 25, 1957, in Washington DC, the son of Henry Morgan and Patricia Abbott Monroe. Scott served in the US Coast Guard and married Carla Paist on February 3, 1990. He moved to NC from his beloved Maryland roots in 1992, was a member of Sovereign Grace Church in Apex, a UNC graduate and avid fan, a ten year employee of Pulte Group, and enjoyed coaching boy's football with Colonial Kids Sports. He was a twin-engine pilot whose love for flight persisted long after he stopped flying.
Survivors include his parents, his wife, children, Olivia Morgan Charis Monroe, Truman Abbott Monroe, and Tucker James Hansen Monroe, all of the home; siblings, Peter Monroe of N. Bethesda, MD, Lauren Monroe Hatten and husband Frank of Potomac, MD, and Robin Bowman Hoopes and husband Spencer of N. Bethesda, MD. Loving uncle to Ben, Kyle and Morgan Hatten, Tyson Bowman, Lesley Hoopes, Ashleigh Gleaton, Joanna Dixon and Christopher Gleaton.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10 AM at Sovereign Grace Church, 401 Upchurch Street, Apex, NC. Family will greet friends on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 6-8 PM at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex NC.
In lieu of flowers, a fund has been established for the Monroe children's college education. Donations should be made payable to Sovereign Grace Church (with notation: "Monroe Children Education Fund").
