The curtain of life opened for Robert Lee Coward on January 23, 1950. The child of the Annabille and Leon Coward. Preceding him in death is the late Annabille Ford-Coward. In like manner, life’s curtains closed for Robert on July 17, 2017at home, which lead him to fighting crime with a criminal named Cancer.
Born in Trenton, New Jersey, he spent most of his childhood on Long Island (Huntington), New York. He attending and graduated from Huntington, high school. His love of sports landed him on a softball team, becoming a master pool player, and member of a fencing club. As a child he went to fencing school and later won the championship in Port Washington. In addition to sports his love of music provided him the opportunity to play the drums in a band known as the Futuristics, with his buddy Herbert (Herbie) Josey.
Mousey was the name everyone would call Robert. He was given that name for his ability to run fast, catch the ball and release it with speed. He had a quick and impressive answer for any and everything no matter who he was speaking to. He also had a humbling spirit, giving heart, and a smile that would light up the room.
Robert worked at Gynell Electronics as an inspector. Upon leaving he gained employment in Huntington as a computer technician, where his appetite for electronics grew. He began advancing his skills regarding programming, diagnosing, and repairing computers for others. There was no question he could not answer when it came to computers. Starting his own computer company was something he was proud of because it allowed him to help others, while doing something he loved.
Robert confessed to Christ and began attending St. Anthony’s Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. Having a prayer partner provided him with the ability to enhance his spiritual growth. Through Christ he learned that trial and tribulations had a beginning, but most of all they had an ending.
The honoree and blessed man leaves the following to celebrate his life: Tonya Lightner ( Walter Lightner), Takima Eason ( Troy Garriga), and Daughter-in-law Leyna Edwards. Grand children: Sonia Edwards, Jamil Edwards, Nathan Edwards, Sa’de Lightner, Chanel Lightner, Walter Lightner IV, Isaiah Garriga, Saniya Garriga, Matthew Garriga. Great-Grand Children: Cha’nia Emma Brown. Lifelong friend: Herbert Josey,Yolanda, and Alberta. His special friend an companion was his cat Spot.
