Maggie - my thoughts go out to you and your family.   Bob was truly an amazing man and a wonderful 1st manager for me to have at IBM!!!   I was so thankful that he hired me and helped me set me on the path to my success here at IBM.  His leadership and focus on his people were what made him one of the best managers I had at IBM.   I am sorry I lost touch with Bob over the years, but hopefully he knew how much he meant to me and to many others here at IBM.

Dear Maggie and family,

Sue Ann and I are deeply saddened to learn of Bob's passing.  Bob was my manager at IBM for a total of eight years.  Those were by far the best years I've spent with the company, in no small part due to Bob's leadership. To date I've had a total of 17 managers during my career, and Bob was head and shoulders the best of them.  The thing that struck me most about Bob was his ability to be genuine and to maintain his integrity, even in a very competitive business climate.  He always created an environment of fairness, even during times when business pressures dictated otherwise.  He was able to walk that thin line of being an effective manager who expected and got the best from his employees, and being a true friend to his employees and colleagues alike.

I am proud to have called Bob my friend and my life is richer because of his influence.  Our family still has the 68 Mustang that Bob sold to my father-in-law in 1994.  Bob would be proud to know that it is fully restored and we keep it in pristine condition and enjoy it every chance we get.  It will continue to be a family treasure, and as we pass it down to our children we will also pass down our cherished memories of Bob.

I know he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  We will keep you and the family in our thoughts and prayers.

To Maggie - It was a privilege to know Bob. Wes & I will always be thankful that we were part of your first kinship group, so we had the blessing of knowing both of you better!  Bob's smile and warm greeting when we met never failed to make me smile!  We are so sorry for your loss, Maggie, and our prayers are with you for God's sustaining.

In the over 30 years that I knew Bob he always personified the words "gentleman" and "Christian".  I will always cherish memories of the many good times I have enjoyed with Maggie and Bob, and I will miss Bob's humor, his caring personality, his wonderful Biblical insight and his gracious smile that always made me feel so welcome.  To Maggie and family...you know I love you and my prayers are with you.

Dear Maggie and the Chapman family-

We will remember our dear Brother in the Lord, dear Bob, for the many times he led our Kinship bible group - and dug deep into the Word of God.  He was a good teacher, and a wonderful friend to all of us, making us feel so connected. When we entered his home, we were really welcomed!  The smile, the hugs, the love, and especially receiving the seriousness of the Gospel message! His long journey of pain and suffering gave us enormous courage and strength, always pointing to the way of the Cross... to Jesus Christ.  We will miss him greatly. His faith is now reality.    Words cannot express the sorry we feel at the passing of Bob.  He has been an inspiration to us in so many ways.  Being very good friends for so many years we enjoyed his humor, determination, and his faith in God.

Alva and I were saddened to learn of Bob's passing. Bob was a true example of what it is to be a nice man.

Dear Maggie, so sorry to hear about Bob. You and the family are in my thoughts and prayers...

When I talked with Bob late last year, he and Maggie were getting ready to meet with their health care providers to discuss arrangements for hospice. Even with his eminent passing and the trial ahead of him/them Bob remained the kind, caring and upbeat person I met almost 30 years ago at IBM in Gaithersburg, Maryland. I have so many fond memories of time spent with Bob like the night we went with our wives to the Damascus, Maryland, VFW Hall for a dance where we danced to Bob's favorite song, Proud Mary by Credence Clearwater. For me Bob set the standard for professionalism at IBM; focused, thoughtful, determined, committed, dedicated and compassionate. Most importantly Bob set the standard for living life; a loving and dedicated son, husband, father and grandfather, a fun loving man who savored life through his personal interests (e.g., running, motorcycle riding), a kind and gentle man who made you feel peaceful and happy in his presence, a friend who was there when you needed him for advice and counsel, and much more. From a personal and professional perspective Bob is the role model I looked up to and my mentor. Lois and I mourn Bob's passing while knowing he is in a better place with his God. Our sincerest sympathy goes to his wonderful wife, Maggie, children, stepchildren and grandchildren. I know he will be missed by all who know him but his memory and contributions to our lives will live on in our hearts and minds.
