After relocating to North Carolina to be closer to the family, Matt realized a lifelong dream of building a successful landscape construction business and finding inspiration in bringing his client's visions to life. When he wasn't on a job site, he could be found on the golf course or at home, cheering on his beloved Tar Heels.
Matt loved sharing time with his family, from boating and fishing at the family home on Lake Gaston, to road trips back to Connecticut. Being part of a large and close family meant the world to him, and he was especially fond of being called Uncle Matt by his cherished nephews and nieces.
Matt also loved traveling with his partner Stephanie, and wherever they went, Matt never met a stranger. He had a way of making everyone he talked to feel like they had been friends for life. And once you were a part of his life, you were part of his family.
Matt had a wonderful sense of humor, a boyish charm, a generous heart, and a broad smile that would light up any room. He was a great source of strength and comfort to many. He will be forever loved and remembered by his partner, Stephanie Turco of Apex, his parents Robert and Lori Marques of Cary, NC; his sister Michelle Marques of Laurel Springs, NJ, his Grandfathers Robert Putnam of Apex, NC, and Manuel Marques of Flagler Beach, FL; and extended family and friends near and far. He is preceded in death by his Grandmothers Jean Putnam and Alice Marques.
From his very first TBall game through his years of AAU baseball, there was no place Matt would rather be than on the baseball field. In place of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Brookfield Baseball Softball Association, PO Box 5178, Brookfield, CT 06804. A scholarship is being created in Matt's memory to provide kids the opportunity to learn and play the sport Matt loved.
A Celebration of Matt's Life will be held once it is safe to do so.
