Mary Marguerite Mehlfelt

Mary Marguerite Halstead McGee Mehlfelt, 86, of Chapel Hill, NC, formerly of Woodbridge, VA and Clinton, MD, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025 following a brief illness. She was born on January 11, 1939 in Washington, D.C. and was raised in Maryland.

Mary was a caretaker of many - grandparents, mother, step-father, mother-in-law, children, niece. She was frugal and remarkably generous. She took her children to church and taught them to care about the things of God. She was a hard worker and was rightfully proud to have risen from clerk typist to UNIVAC computer operator and attorney assistant to DoD GS-13. She loved flowers, cats, reading, and the beauty of nature.

Mary was preceded in death by her mother Sarah Elizabeth Golden Cale Halstead Hasson, her father Linford Halstead, her step-father Claude Hasson Jr., her half-sister Valerie “Von” Carpenter, her half-brother James Wray Cale, her step-brother Dale Hasson, her ex-husband of 28 years Robert L. McGee Sr., and her husband of 21 years Francis A. Mehlfelt.

Mary is survived by her four children Robert Jr. (Terri) McGee, Lisa (Danny) Burmeister, John (Janine) McGee, and Michael (Rebekah) McGee; her step-daughter Jennifer (Allen) Hynes and family; her nine grandchildren Robert III, Chrisann, Collin, Sean, Christina, Joshua, Taylor, Cole, and Conner; and her sixteen great-grandchildren Robert IV, Addie, Jael, Eve, Simeon, Sophia, Jonathan, Felicity, Murray, Becket, Eliot, Moses, Samanatha, Lillian, Lucas, and Kai. Step-brother and step-sisters Frank Hasson, Claudette Carver and Janet Showalter.

A graveside memorial will be held at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas, Virginia on March 31 at noon.
