Margaret Magdalene Knowlton (Maggie), 84, of Cary, NC passed away on June 2, 2023. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Knowlton, parents, Dr. George C. Fischer Sr. and Alma M. Fischer, and her only brother, Dr. George C. Fischer Jr. She is survived by her children Andy (Amy Beth), Chris (Kathleen), Joe and Maggie, four grandchildren, Sam, Jackie, Rowan and Will, her brother’s wife, Francine, and many nieces and nephews.
Although Maggie lived in North Carolina for more than 45 years, she and Jack were both proud to be “transplanted yankees”, with Maggie originally from Pittsburgh, PA and Jack from Bellefontaine, OH. Maggie was the valedictorian of her high school class, received her undergraduate degree from Dumbarton University in Washington, DC, and her Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh.
Maggie spent her life caring for others, first as a hospital social worker, later as a loving mother and wife, and finally as a Montessori teacher caring for infants at SAS institute. Her friends knew Maggie to be genuine, kind and loving with a terrific sense of humor. She loved to laugh and found humor in the everyday. She was a devout Catholic who volunteered her time for the unborn. Maggie was a true joy to be around and someone who will be missed greatly.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church in Apex, NC on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM.
Memorial donations can be made to the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh.
