Laura Denise Coleman was born on October 25, 1955, in New York, NY to her parents, Harry A. Coles and Mary E. Coles. She was the youngest of their two children.
Laura, who was better known as Denise, attended New York City Public schools and completed her High School education before enlisting in the United States Military Force, Army. During her tenure, Laura was deployed to Desert Storm, Gulf War.
Laura served full term in the Army and was Honorably Discharged. After her time in the Army, Laura returned home to New York City to be with her widowed mother, Mary.
Laura had a love for children and teaching and decided to further her education to become a teacher.
Laura obtained her college degree, in Early Childhood Education, from the City University of New York: Hostos Community College. Upon graduation, Laura taught in the New York City Public School system before relocating to Suffolk, VA. Laura continued teaching in VA before taking ill.
Laura is preceded in death by her father, Harry A. Coles, and her sister, Diana G. Knox.
Laura will be dearly missed by her mother, Mary E. Coles; niece, Quwanna S.H. Phillips (Curtis A. Phillips); Nephew, William D. Knox (Queomi Knox) and a host of cousins, family members and friends.
