I'm so very sorry for your loss. The world is a little less bright now. When my husband passed away 5 years ago Lance told me to surround myself with family and friends now I can only reiterate that wonderful advice he gave me. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I hope you find peace.

I vividly remember him carrying Allison home when she cut open her chin, having decided to ride her bike like the big kids, with no hands. He made sure she was ok & called an ambulance. I honestly think he was more upset than she was. It was comforting knowing he was in the neighborhood watching out for all the kids. I did not know Lance as well as some of you have.  He played in our Roller Hockey Leagues at Jellybeans of Cary the past two years.  The first time I met him I could tell his personality and impact was infectious.  For the short time I knew  Lance, I could feel his passion on and off the rink.  He was an instant teammate to anyone he was partnered with on a team.  I wish I could have had a longer  relationship with Lance.   God has just recruited the best teammate anyone could ever have.  The family of Inline Hockey Players share your sadness and your family is in our prayers.

I have known Lance since he was a little boy, as his Mom and my sister were High School friends. My sister married his Uncle Nick. I am saddened by the loss of this amazing man. Lance and I didn’t always agree on issues, but when we would ‘banter’ back and forth, he was always respectful. Lance was the type of American that would be able to unite the people, because of his willingness to listen and mainly because he was a caring  man with a kind and gentle soul. Hearing of Lance's untimely death hit me hard.  Lance was the Battalion Commander of the 362nd Quartermaster Battalion when I was in Brigade command.  He was always full of energy and competence and brought his Soldiers up to his level.  His battalion was the best in my brigade and was always either the number one or number two of all battalions in the entire southeast of the United States.  His enthusiasm was very contagious and made the military life fun for his command and Soldiers.  We shared the love of hockey and when I first met him, we realized that we played on the same rinks and did not realize it.  The Army lost of great leader far too early.  Lance will be greatly missed.

Only a few days ago, I enjoyed reading the most beautiful “love letter” that Lance wrote to his Dear Christine on the occasion of her birthday this week.  As deeply sad as it is now, it is also very beautiful that he had the opportunity to write this pubic affirmation of his love and admiration for his beautiful and incredibly wonderful wife, just now!

We have known as Lance as most affable, caring, and that he can be very passionate in his opinions. We have seen him as an amazing, caring Husband, wonderful and proud Father, great Brother, Son-in-Law, Brother-in-Law, Uncle, Friend, and Cousin! A Model Citizen, Police Officer- Patrol Supervising Sargent, Police First Sargent, Colonel, US Army Reserves – Joint Team Chief Soldier, Firefighter, Sportsman, Coach, Hockey, Football; Board of Education VicePresident. There are others with (perhaps not as many) great gifts and talents. What is most amazing about Lance is that he shared all of these incredible and diverse gifts with so many, with much energy and caring enthusiasm and the greatest of (sometimes humble) passion. THIS is has made Lance Brown to be a Great American Hero.

As I personally have been very actively searching for new work opportunity at this time, Lance knowing that many (during these pandemic days are doing so) posted a most helpful template on LinkedIn to help those who are struggling in their search in this difficult time with a very clear, concise format to use.  I have been meaning to contact him to thank him for doing so.  Since I have adopted his recommendations, I have found that I have been more confident in my search… So Lance, for this also I am personally grateful!

I am very happy that we have opportunity to have some fun together at our daughter's wedding last July and that Christine and Lance were still “going at It as strongly” on the dance floor as they had at their own wedding back in the 1900’s… (and attach a photo herein)…

Part 3 of 5 Parts
We have always marveled how Lance had the energy, ability and diverse talent to do all he does for so many, and so very well! Police Officer, Volunteer Fire Fighter, Coach, Military Leader - Reserves Officer, real estate investor, amazingly talented in construction work (and I am quite sure I have missed a few). Not only have we marveled of the incredible construction work Lance himself had done on his and Christine’s home, (in Port Jeff), the beautiful addition, basement, etc., and soon after the amazing “country club yard,” he constructed, but also, shared his amazing talent as a great gift to us. With the help of his brother, completed what the absolute most professional work on our home’s putting on a new roof and fence work. We are always grateful to you Lance.

Not too long ago, earlier this year a bit into the pandemic, when on Facebook, I noticed that Lance had posted a “quiz.” I’m not recalling exactly what it was, but it was some sort of “equation” that had to be solved (similar to a thoughtful, “difficult-ish”, SAT type question), which he challenged his friends to answer.  I took the bait, and of course, did not “count properly” and did not get the answer correct.  He responded to me and asked me, as I lost, to post “ACKNOWLEDGING THAT I LOST TO LANCE BROWN” as my “Status,” and of course I did so.

As we got to know Lance it soon became very clear that he was more than a fun party guy, much more complex, with many and varied talents and interests, truly a man for all seasons. First and foremost, we learned about his military experience and service to our country as an officer and training leader in the reserves!  I am sure there are many others much more qualified to share what I know are very interesting, heroic stories. And I am sure that we will get to hear these tributes!  I can say that when he has shared with us his stories of his work and experience in the military, it is always with the greatest, pride, enthusiasm and patriotism for his country. There is no one I know who I would characterize as a greater patriot than Lance Brown.  There isn’t a week that would go by visiting LinkedIn when I did not see a tribute or post that Lance put up about a military hero for whom he had genuine admiration! His concern, admiration, prayers and tributes for America’s greatest heroes is unparalleled!

Part 1 of 5 parts

If anyone would ask me who I would name as the person who should be characterized as “The Greatest American Hero, who I know personally,” without a second of hesitation I would most sincerely state: Lance Brown.  Lance hit, every note, and checks every box, unequivocally, no question.

We had first met Lance at family functions Lance, when he was dating my first cousin Christine. It was not until attending their wedding that we first get to see “Lance in action” and get a first, but very good glimpse of his personality!  Until then, I never (and not often since) have seen a couple enjoy their own wedding reception, as much as at Christine and Lance’s at their Wedding Reception.  What a “bash;” it was a great, party! I can still hear / see Lance along with Christine and their close “gang of friends” performing “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,” in full animation.  The room wedding reception hall shook “on fire!” Whenever I have heard that song, all these years, ever since, and now, I cannot help but visualize Lance, Christina and their group’s performance at their wedding.

Dear Christine, Madison and Brendon,
Words cannot express the depth of the heartbreak that we feel in light of this most profound loss.  What I can say is what this incredible Hero, that your husband and father is.  What he has accomplished in a “shorter” lifetime in this pilgrim journey on earth, most could not fit into the lifetime of five other even great men!  This man is by far most amazing.  And I am certain that heaven does not often see “this level of amazing” enter its gates very often.  I can only imagine the “goings on” and the great energy that he is bringing to this already most magnificent paradise, which is far more enriched by his being there.  While this is a great loss for all of us, Heaven is very, very blessed to have his wonderful enthusiasm. 

Many you find peace and comfort in the midst of your incredible loss and know that he will continue to be an inspiration to you and to many for their lifetimes.  May God continue to bless each of you abundantly and hold you in the Palm of His Hand.

I am so sorry and sad that my brother-in-law ‘s time on this earth was not longer. I always admired how he treated my sister and his children.  He really was a good man who worked very hard, still maintained active in the reserves , and had a history of being helpful to many people over the years. Lance Brown was the most dependable and hardest worker as a high school football player at William Floyd High School. I was fortunate to coach this unselfish and caring young man. Lance was always giving to others by stepping up help others.
He helped me on September 4,1982 by driving me from football camp in upstate New York to Huntington Hospital in time to see my daughter Katie being born. Katie is now 37 has two daughters. She is a teacher and coach and had the honor of meeting Lance two years ago.

Dear Christine and family, Please accept our family’s deepest sympathies; this news is so shocking.  Lance and I went to William Floyd high school together and shared some time doing masonry work for my father.  When I think of Lance, words that immediately come to mind are “family,” “service,” “action,” “teamwork,” “community,” “helpful” …. “friend!”  It is no surprise that his calling and dedication was helping others through law enforcement on Long Island and at Duke University.  He so proudly served his country abroad in harm’s way in the War on Terrorism rising to the rank of Colonel (knocking on Brigadier General) in the Army Reserves. Lance’s helpfulness was epitomized when he heard my father was in Duke University Hospital for surgery two years ago.  Lance found out and was immediately at our family’s side in the waiting room during surgery, recovery, and often popped in to visit my Dad until he was discharged.  He always brightened the room with his attitude, optimism, and kind heartedness.  I will never forget…

I am so sorry you and your family are experiencing this sudden and heart wrenching loss.  Please know that there is a tremendous community of friends that are thinking and praying for your family.  I am very grateful and proud to have known Lance and thankful for his kindness to my father and family.


Lance was a friend of my children when he was 18 years old, in New York.  As a mason, I often asked him to work with me on Saturdays.  He was hard working, pleasant, respectful, and pleasant to be around.  I was surprised to see him in NC, and at Duke Hospital when I was there for four weeks following quadruple by-pass surgery.  Lance came to see me often while there.  He helped to keep my family informed and encouraged.  He was a great man and will be missed!  Prayers for his family and may God bless his soul.

I am in the HFD where Lance changed the NCPD 216 car. He was one of the nicest guys you will ever meet . I have seen him out at Yankee games he would come over to me to make an effort to say hi. I haven’t seen him since he retired and moved but I saw him at a restaurant in Bay Shore NY last year and he practically knocked the table over to come shake my hand.Even those it’s been a while we had a lot of laughs Lance. I grew up with Lance, we played Lynvetts football together. we were The Vikings. He was our Quarterback for a while. He was also an officer in the United States Army. He was an officer and I was enlisted but he didn’t let rank interfere with a great time.

I knew Lance in high school, we were in some of the same classes.  I wasn't in his circle of friends but we were acquaintances.
We connected on Facebook quite a few years ago.  I got to know him a little more.  
We had somethings in common now.  We both served in the military and are both Nebraska Cornhusker fans.  He told me he spent some time in Nebraska, and I now live in Nebraska.  We would sometimes comment back and forth on game days.  
I am in total shock at such sad news.  Prayers for his beautiful wife and family.

I worked with Lance for many years in the Nassau County Police Dept.  The two things I will always remember about him was his crazy personality and the great love he had for his family. He was a good man with a big heart. He will be missed. Rest In Peace.
