I stumbled over this  site and saw that Kenny Howell had passed away.  I went to school with Kenny and had not seen or heard from him since graduating  H.S, in 1970.  One evening around 2004/05, I received a phone call from Kenny.;  I live in VA and  rarely travel to the Apex area since my parent's passed away, so his call was quite the surprise.  He was calling me to let me know that a classmate had passed away.  We chatted a bit and he caught me up on some people and events around the Apex area.  Kenny seemed very informed on people and events occurring in and around Apex.  He definitely had a grasp  re: the class of 1970 living in and around Apex; I recommended that he become  class historian  and publish an occasional newsletter re. class of 70 since graduation.  That would have made an interesting read. Subsequent to that initial phone call, I would receive one more call from Kenny just to talk.  One thing was obvious, Kenny loved and cherished his memories of the Apex Class of 1970.  I never did ask Kenny what made him think of me.  Living  out of state does have its' disadvantages, one being not knowing when a person's former friends and classmates pass are sick and  pass on.  To  Kenny's family, know that Kenny had a big heart and genuinely cared about people.

Kenneth and I went through school together and on to ECU together.  He visited my family often and came to my church, Green Level Baptist, often through the years.  He was always so kind to our family.  I pray for the family at this sad time.  May God give you peace.

I am so sorry to learn of your loss.  You could always depend on Kenny as a friend.  He will be missed.

Kenneth was a great friend where I first met him. I was new to Apex High School in my junior year. Kenneth never met a stranger. When we graduated, I went on to UNC-Chapel Hill. We lost touch briefly. He kept in touch as he could throughout the years. He always had news about Apex & what was going on. Made me miss Apex & my grandmother, Atha Smallwood Goodwin, when we would have a chance to catch up. Kenny was a special person. He will be missed.

Kenneth (Kenny as we called him) and I went to E.C.U. at the same time.  We went to the Baptist Student Union and dated girls in the Kappa Delta sorority.  I enjoyed the times we spent together at E.C.U.  I was saddened to read of his death.  It has been many years since I had seen him.  We did stay in touch for a short while after ECU.  He was a good friend to me at ECU.  Please accept my sympathy!
