With great sadness we share the passing of Kelly Georgene Routten, 49, of Fuquay Varina, who went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2024. Born on September 29, 1974, at Fort Bragg, NC to George and Connie Hurst. Kelly was the youngest of four children. Kelly was the loving and devoted mother of Holli Brynne Routten and Bryce Caden Routten of Fuquay Varina, NC. She is lovingly remembered by her parents, George and Connie Hurst of Brunswick, GA., sister Stephanie Hurst of Brunswick, GA, brother Christopher Hurst and sister-in-law Ivy of Antipolo, Philippines, brother Kevin Hurst in the Coast Guard, Uncle Gregory Schwarzwaelder of New Bern, N.C., nephew Andrew Hurst of Pensacola, FL, and niece Katlin Hicks and husband Zeth of Lake Odessa, MI.
Born at Ft. Bragg, NC, Kelly attended elementary school in Barrington, NJ and Stowe, VT. She enjoyed ice skating and skiing while in Vermont. She graduated from Clinton High School, Clinton, NC. From Clinton her family moved to Cary, NC and she attended East Carolina University. Following an internship with IBM, Kelly was offered a full-time position as an analyst for employee benefits and left ECU for full-time employment with IBM. IBM eventually transferred those functions to Fidelity, so Kelly became part of Fidelity Investments. Kelly loved her job. She was extremely analytical and dedicated.
She left to become a full-time mother and completed her business degree with Strayer University. While she loved her career in human resources, her primary goal in life was to be a mother. She was devoted to her children, Holli and Bryce. While separated from her children for a number of years, Kelly was always focused on putting her children first and doing whatever she could for them.
In 2020, Kelly returned to Fidelity Investments, but unfortunately had to leave in November 2020 due to medical issues. She has lived in Fuquay Varina for over 20 years. She loved to cook and loved crafts. She was devoted to her pets, the most recent being dogs, Abbie and Gracie. A very independent and determined woman, Kelly will be missed.
Details of a service will hopefully be coming soon, once we work out how to get our dispersed family together.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared below within “Add a Memory” for the Hurst family.
