Jay Thomas Mullins passed on to Heaven on January 9th, 2012. He was born July 10, 1950 at Mercy Hospital in Nassau County, Long Island, New York, the home of his parents Cecilia Teresa Power Mullins and Kennedy Francis Mullins.
Jay graduated from Cary High School in 1968 and received his undergraduate degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 1972. Just days after graduation he began a 30-year career with CP&L. He lived all over Wake County, NC, as well as spending many wonderful years in Pittsboro and Beaufort, NC.
Jay was a gentle soul, with a love of all things nature, both great and small. The things that brought him the most joy in life included fishing with friends and his son, attending concerts with his siblings and children, and spending time with his dogs.
Jay leaves behind to celebrate his life his son, Jeff Mullins, and daughter, Kelly Mullins; mother Cecilia; brother Ken Mullins and wife, Brenda, of Raleigh; sister Pat Clark and husband, Paul, of Maumee, OH; sister Pam Wheeler and her love, Brian Gunter, of Raleigh; many nieces and nephews, including his guardian angel on earth Shannon Clark; and numerous friends, including JoAnne Fowler Stella, the mother of his children; his love Martha Craft; and his son’s love Mary Beidler. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Jackie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center of Topsail Beach, NC, or the SPCA of Wake County.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8pm on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the Apex Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Apex Funeral Home at noon on Saturday, January 14, 2012.
