James was born on August 9, 1970 to his parents, James Chandler and Joanne Bortner. Jim enlisted in the US Air Force out of high school then worked for Lord Corporation in Saegertown, PA and Cary, NC. Afterward, he transitioned into a highly successful commercial broker and land developer, dedicating his boundless energy and expertise to building residential communities in Wake and surrounding counties. His efforts, including the Mathews Landing community in Harnett County and projects in downtown Holly Springs, NC have left a lasting and meaningful impact on these communities.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Joanne Bortner and stepbrother Matt Bond.
James is lovingly remembered by his wife, Shawnda Rossi; stepson, Rivers Porper; stepfather, Dan Bortner (Anne); sister, Michelle Anthony (Mark); brothers, Rich Kuntz (Tina), Scott Hanzes (Carrie), and Jason Bradick (Erin); stepsisters, Tabitha and Valerie Waid (Rob); sister-in-laws, Trisha Rossi (Thane), Bob Rossi and Patricia Rossi (Jeff). He is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim’s huge heart and passionate personality touched many lives. His drive and energy were magnetic. Jim was a man who pursued and accomplished big dreams, and he cared deeply for those he surrounded himself with. Jim was admired by his community, friends, and family. He built strong and lasting relationships along the way. Some would say Jim had a larger-than-life personality, but when you became part of Jim’s life, you knew you were loved and cared for.
