Ike was born on December 22, 1938 in Charlotte, NC to the late Thomas and Rebecca Cathcart. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Cathcart and sister, Patsy Cathcart Berryhill.
Ike (also known as “Ikey” to family members and classmates through out elementary and high school in Charlotte NC) was known and loved by many and he never met a stranger. He served his country in the United States Army. He made many good friends in his long career in Sales and Sales Management when he worked for Westinghouse and Allison-Erwin Co. (Charlotte N.C.), Hart-Greer Co. (Nashville TN & Birmingham AL), Woodson & Bozeman Co. (Memphis TN) and 21st Century (Garner NC). When he was no longer working in Sales, he worked for Lowe’s Foods (Raleigh NC area), the Holiday Inn Express (Apex NC) and the Hyatt Place (RDU, Morrisville NC) among other small part time jobs over the years. All this to say that he always enjoyed meeting and being around people and didn’t stop working until he no longer could.
In his spare time, he loved playing golf and watching it on TV, being at the beach (especially Destin FL) and spending precious time with his daughters, grandchildren, “grand dogs” and his dog Rebound (“Pookie” to him).
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 31 years, Judy Riley Cathcart; daughters, Jan Frye (John) and Amy Swoope (Steve); grandchildren, Alex Frye, Madison Frye, Hannah Swoope, Drew Swoope and Megan Swoope as well as nieces, nephews, his wife’s family members and many very special friends.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Avalon Peaks Apartments Clubhouse, 2000 Kiftsgate Lane, Apex NC 27539.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Leading The Way or The Humane Society of the United States.
