She was born June 7, 1923 in Springfield, MA to the late John Anthony and Henrietta Laura Sievers Moran. Henny grew up as part of the Greatest Generation in New England where she met her future husband, Ed. Her Aunt Erna owned and operated the landmark Student Prince Restaurant in Springfield, MA. Henny possessed a unique sense of style, charm, grace and spirit which inevitably made her someone to love instantly. Both elegant and spunky, she was beloved by friends of all ages.
She moved to Charlotte, NC with Ed in 1958 where she devoted her time raising her daughter and two sons. They moved again to North Myrtle Beach, SC in 1980 so Henny could be near the ocean she loved so much, and read books for hour upon hour at the very edge of the sea; the tide gently lapping at her feet. Henny and Ed moved a final time in 1990 to Cary to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Henny was a breast cancer survivor for 13 years. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Henny was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Edward Joseph Dowd, Jr. and brother, John Sievers Moran.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Dowd Lischwe and husband, Joseph Michael of Cary; sons, Christopher J. Dowd and John E. Dowd; grandchildren, Laura and John Lischwe; Erin, Christina and John E. Dowd, Jr.; and great granddaughter, Miranda.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Rd, Cary, NC 27513. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
Memorials may be made in her name to The Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, PO Box 14608 Greensboro, NC 27415.
