Always in search of his place in this world, Garrett will be forever cherished for his quiet, gentle, and generous soul. He never thought twice about jumping to someone’s aid or giving freely to a cause that touched his heart. Once he even gave away an entire freshly baked, homemade lasagna simply because a gentleman in need of a meal happened to cross his path. Garrett was a man of God, humble and nonjudgmental. He loved nature and animals, especially his rescue dog Tito.
A proud graduate of Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, VA, Garrett worked as a security guard, videographer, and preparer and server of food at various points in his life. But perhaps his greatest accomplishment was his beautiful family. Garrett is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Gurpreet Kaur Wright, and their three children Kaitlyn Ashiana Wright, Elijah William Wright, and Alyssa Grace Wright. Through the good times and the bad, his deep love for his family never wavered.
In the last months of his life, Garrett reminisced about loved ones who had passed before him. Garrett missed his maternal grandfather, Lloyd H. Gibson Sr., whose marriage of 50 years inspired Garrett to carry himself with “integrity concerning [his own] family and marriage.” Of his paternal grandmother, Corrine Wright Hager, Garrett said she “could make soul food that I haven’t seen anyone else come close to…collards, creamed white corn, lima beans, corn bread…” These memories may have inspired his own passion for cooking for his family. Spicy shrimp pasta, Indian chickpeas with rice, and birthday cakes from scratch were among the memorable dishes he created often for his wife and children.
Garrett is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Erma M. Gibson of Norman, OK; father James William Wright (Challis) of Chapel Hill, NC; mother Sharon L. Fucci (James) of Parrish, FL; mother-in-law Jagdish Kaur of Holly Springs, NC; brother Keith Wright of Erie, PA; sister Kerry Wright Aradhya (Swaroop) of Mountain View, CA; and many more in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
May Garrett rest in peace and know that he is loved by many.
