December 22, 2010 marked the passing of a dear, sweet man, Franklin Hunter Upchurch, Sr., at the age of 87. His mission in life was to let his light so shine so that others might see Jesus in him. He was a lifelong resident of Morrisville, NC until June 2006 and currently resided at Woodland Terrace Senior Living Community in Cary, NC. He was a 1940 Graduate of Green Hope High School in Carpenter NC. He retired in 1983 after 30 years as a claims examiner for the NC Employment Security Commission.
He is preceded in death by his parents Julius and Fannie Upchurch, his brothers Kader Upchurch and John Upchurch; his sisters Mary Elizabeth Salotti, Pauline Howard and Christine Scoggins.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Martha Upchurch; his son Franklin Upchurch Jr., and wife Janet; his daughter Paula Hipp and husband Danny; his brother George Upchurch and wife Ann; grandson Bryce Hipp; granddaughter Jada Huss and husband Brad; and great grandsons Hayden and Wyatt Huss.
He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Morrisville. He served his Lord as a deacon, served on various committees, and was always a valiant prayer warrior.
He served his town and community as a scoutmaster, volunteer fireman, member of the Ruritan Club, and various committees in the town government. The town of Morrisville honored his service in naming a street after him. We all honor him for the faithful, loving, generous man he was.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church of Morrisville with Dr. Myron Yandle and Dr. Floyd Enzor officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at the church. Burial will follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Park.
