A life-long North Carolinian, she was born in Chatham County on March 8, 1925, to Charlie and Eler Smith.
Evelyn was married to the love of her life, Wallace R. King (predeceased), for 74 years. They were blessed with four children, Carol King Bordeaux, Linda King Towson (predeceased), Gary Wallace King, and Joy King Beke. Evelyn retired from a career she truly loved at SAS Institute and cherished her friends she made there. Until her declining health, Evelyn was active in church and enjoyed singing in the choir and playing on the church softball team. Evelyn was an excellent cook. Homemade chicken and dumplings, chocolate pies and banana pudding are just a few of her many signature dishes.
We will greatly miss her special “wink”, her unconditional love and devotion to family. Survivors include her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday July 16, at Apex Funeral Home Chapel, 550 W. Williams St, Apex, NC 27502. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 2 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612.
