Born in the French Canadian village of Acadieville, New Brunswick on May 27th, 1919, she had an independent streak and a spirit for adventure, ahead of her time. She lived in NYC, Lowell, MA, Goose Bay, Labrador, Oklahoma City, OK, and Utica, NY before settling in Ballston Spa. Her real estate business, “Eva M. Richard, Realtor”, was a fixture on the corner of South St. and Milton Ave. for more than 40 years. Eva was known to many throughout the tri-city area, where she always stood out from a crowd with her unselfconscious dress and attitude. She stayed active and independent into her 90’s. She loved the real estate business, traveling (to Hawaii in her late 70’s for her first real estate convention, visiting Europe’s major cities as part of a tour group in her 80’s, and to visit friends and family across Canada and the US), dancing, swimming (at Lake Desolation or the Y), and playing scrabble, bridge, and tennis (her community team won the Saratoga championship in 2004). She was fearless, ever open to new experiences, perpetually “on the go”, and her heart and modest home were always open to helping any family or friend in need.
She was predeceased by her son, Paul, and is survived by her four remaining children, Francis Richard of Saratoga Springs, NY, Ann and Susan Richard of Cary, NC, and Robert Richard of Albuquerque, NM, six grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Her indomitable spirit will be greatly missed.
An intention mass will be offered at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ballston Spa, NY on February 11th, 2017 at 4pm.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!” ― Hunter S. Thompson
