Elsie was born March 12, 1914 in Wake County, NC, the youngest child of eight brothers and sisters to Sexton Lawrence and Sallie Honeycutt Lawrence.
She attended Olive Chapel School and Apex School where she met and later married J.C. Scott, Jr. who predeceased her. Also predeceasing her were sons William Earl Scott and John Elwood Scott.
She is survived by son Charles Edward Scott and wife Roberta of Garner and by daughters-in-law Jeanette Scott of Cary and Margaret Scott of Raleigh. Survivors also include six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her special friend and caregiver Carolyn Jackson of Apex.
After caring for J.C. during his many years of declining health, Elsie worked as a nurse assistant and retired from the Western Wake Hospital and then worked for a nursing home and caring for sick persons in her community. Her proudest accomplishments, though, were raising and participating in the lives of her three sons, and later, giving her time and efforts to those grandchildren and great grandchildren who needed her love. Elsie’s faith was strong and she showed it by a lifetime of church attendance and participation in the programs of Olive Chapel and Apex Baptist Churches.
Services will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11 AM at Olive Baptist Church, 600 New Hill Olive Chapel Rd, Apex, NC 27502. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and at the home of Carolyn Jackson, 2725 Olive Chapel Rd at other times. Memorials may be made to UNC Hospice, PO Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
