Eileen was born on June 14, 1953 (Flag Day) to the late Anthony and Eileen Calvagno. She grew up the oldest of 8 siblings in the Capital Region in New York.
Eileen is survived by her husband of 45 years, William A Gurecki; son, David Gurecki (wife, Jenifer, grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher); son, Michael Gurecki (wife, Carly); daughter, Cynthia Polizzi (husband, Marc-Anthony). Eileen was predeceased by her brothers, Edward Calvagno and John Calvagno. She is survived by her siblings, Anne Calvagno, Anthony Calvagno (Alison), Mary Groat (Harold), Barbara Whitney (Bob) and James Calvagno (Lisa); and sister-in-law, Frances Calvagno. She will be missed greatly by her dog "April the pug".
Eileen was a teacher in the Rome City School District for over 30 years. While she taught many different grades over that time, she loved teaching children to read and retired as a 2nd grade teacher. Eileen combined her gift of teaching with her strong Catholic faith, both as a member of St. Paul's Parish in Rome NY and Mother Teresa Catholic Church in Cary, NC. She hosted a CP Bible Study weekly and prepared children for their first communion.
After retirement, Eileen moved to North Carolina to be closer to her grandchildren. She learned to play golf and would go out weekly with her husband and friends. She also enjoyed playing Canasta and other games with her neighbors in Carolina Preserve.
