Born in Washington, NC, the oldest of 6 children of A.T. & Salathiel Windley. As a young man, Eddie began his career in the shipyards on the Virginia coast where he made life-long friends. His hard work eventually led him to Raleigh where he worked in Project Management for various engineering firms, eventually retiring from KBR in 2014. Eddie loved being in his shop and working to restore several old cars ('64 Plymouth Fury, '66 Plymouth Satellite, '57 Chevrolet and '37 Buick).
In 2006, Eddie helped his two sons plant a new church, The Bridge Community Church, in Morrisville, NC. He was well known by all as the gentle man with the kind smile, welcoming everyone on Sunday mornings. One of his greatest joys were the several mission trips he took to Florestopolis, Brazil in partnership with Open Arms Worldwide, where Eddie shared Christ and made many impactful relationships.
It was obvious to anyone that spent any amount of time with him, that his relationship with the Lord was the most important aspect of his life. Eddie never missed an opportunity to share about Christ with everyone he met. His joy was infectious.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Delores "Dee" Windley; children: Karen Blalock, Michael Windley (Courtney) and Matthew Windley (Cheri); 10 grandchildren: Kimberly Tu (Jensen), Jennifer Barefield, Jackson Windley, Ethan Windley, Elijah Blalock, Hannah Windley, Caleb Windley, Noah Blalock, Emma Kate Windley and Luciana Windley; 1 great grandson: Tiger Tu; 5 siblings: Norma Askew, Brenda Gurkin (Jack), Wiley Windley (Brenda), Mitchell Windley and Linda Foreman (Phil); and many "adopted in love" children and grandchildren in Brazil.
