Dianne Horton, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, quilter, and advocate for social justice, passed away on April 2, 2023, at the age of 84. She was born on February 28, 1939, in Melrose, Massachusetts to George McLeod and Jessie MacMillan.
Dianne spent her life dedicated to caring for others. She was a registered nurse, and her kindness and compassion touched the lives of countless patients and families. In addition to her work as a nurse and her involvement later in life with Habitat for Humanity, Dianne enjoyed playing bridge. She was an avid player and loved spending time with friends and family playing for hours at a time. Dianne was also an accomplished quilter. Her family is honored to have many of her creations in their homes. She entered several quilts at the NC State Fair, winning top awards.
Dianne attended Boston University where she was an active member of Sigma Kappa Delta. Hooker, her beloved husband of 62 years, and Dianne met at BU and soon after their graduation they married. She was a proud mother to her two children, Jeffrey and Capt. Richard Horton. Richard preceded her in death. She cherished every moment spent with her family, including her daughter-in-law Gladys, and grandchildren, Rebecca, Hamish, and Maya.
Dianne was not a fan of flying but her dedication to family enabled her to overcome her fear. One of her most memorable trips was joining her daughter-in-law Gladys and son Jeff on their honeymoon in La Paz, Bolivia. The experience was a testament to Dianne’s love of family and her adventurous spirit.
Dianne will be remembered for her selflessness, unwavering strength, and laughter. She was a true friend to all who knew her, and her kindness, generosity and talent as a quilter will never be forgotten. Dianne’s memory will live on through the lives she touched throughout her life.
