Those are the facts, the statistics, but David was so much more than just those facts. Born the youngest of three brothers and the youngest of five siblings, you might expect him to be spoiled and selfish. Not David; he was loving, kind, generous to a fault, gentle hearted, compassionate, a hard worker and willing to help at a drop of a hat with a ready grin and quiet chuckle. All he really wanted was for everyone to love each other without contention. He was fiercely protective of all his family and friends and willing to count you as a friend until you proved you weren't and then he would forgive and move on.
He was an avid fisherman, and it didn't matter if it was fresh or salt water, a lake, river, canal or the ocean, didn't matter if he was in a boat, on the bank, or chest deep in the surf. A rod and reel in his had was like a little piece of heaven. He loved just being outdoors and observing and interacting with nature; He loved working with his hands, whether it was building something, or working on a car, or in his garden. He was always looking for ways to make other people happy, to lighten their burdens, always had a kind word for everyone, and a ready smile, he always looked for the good in everyone.
The other side of his Gemini personality was one of independence and self-sufficiency, occasionally broody, with a temper that was rarely seen but could be nasty. He lived his life the way he wanted to and he shared only what he wanted to share, and had a desire for privacy that was almost hermit-like. But these qualities were seldom seen or realized by those who knew him.
David was a quiet but pervasive presence in the lives of all who knew him. The kind of person who you don't realize just how much he contributed to your happiness until he went away. He cherished his family and his friends and his legacy will be the love he shared so generously, his many kindnesses and the joyful memories we have of him doing what he was best at, making us smile. So if you if you want to remember David and give yourself a smile, "All ya gotta do is ....."
