Charles or Charlie, as often called within his inner circle of friends, was born in Yonkers, NY on December 12, 1935. A long-time resident of Middle Village, Queens, Charles was a true New York City enthusiast who sculpted a beautiful life around his passion for literature, art, and film. His first job as a teenager in a local bookstore eventually led him to a career as a Publisher’s Representative, where he worked his way to become co-owner of Como Sales Company working with some of his closest friends.
As a rep, he traveled throughout New England, bouncing from bookstore to bookstore, mingling with unique individuals who shared similar interests, and picking up lifelong friends along the way. Charles’ passion was mirrored in all facets of his life. He was a collector of many things including comics, toys, and unique sculptures, but he was mostly devoted to his collection of rare books and art, in which he was at the top of his field. In addition, he was a writer and editor whose published works include short stories and forwards. A zealous “movie buff”, worldly traveler, music enthusiast, who adored his home of New York City, the night-life, Broadway, and all the many magical things NYC offers, Charles truly lived his passion. As his passion drove his lifestyle, so too did it drive his character. He was kind hearted, incredibly articulate, had a contagious smile; he loved meeting new people, trying new foods, and perhaps the single most aspect that paralleled his passion for books, was his extreme devotion to his family and close friends. He was an incredibly unique man, who reveled in his uniqueness and always wanted to share this with others.
Charles was a true example of the popular phrase that’s been repeated by philosophers and writers, from Confucius to Mark Twain “Choose a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life”.
Charles was preceded by his father, Charles Sr., his Mom Teresa, his Aunt Frances and some great friends, too many to mention. He is survived by his two children, Chris and Christine, his grandchildren Trevor, Alyssa, and Cameron and an extended network of family and friends.
