Casen was born May 10, 2002 in Cary, NC. He was born as a special needs little man with multiple health complications. At birth, he was given 6 months to live by the medical community. Casen was born with great determination and strength, and as a result, lived for 16 ½ years.
Casen’s bright blue eyes and big smile were infectious. Casen touched the hearts of everyone who had the great opportunity to know this amazing and resilient little man. He faced obstacles everyday that are difficult to comprehended, and defied the odds against him with his courage and spirit.
During the first 6 years of his life, Casen spent several weeks a year in the hospital due to multiple health complications. From the age of 6, Casen spent the next 8 years as a healthy little man at home with no hospital visits. In early 2016, Casen spent 73 days at WakeMed PICU due to the common cold, grand mal seizure, and pneumonia. Casen fought very hard to get healthy again thanks to the great nurses and doctors at WakeMed PICU. Since 2016, Casen visited WakeMed PICU a couple times a year to see all of his favorite nurses (girlfriends) and doctors.
Casen was very blessed by all the great care he was given at home thanks to his father and home nurses (Teri, Linda, Lee, Kellie and many more great nurses of Maxim Healthcare), physical therapy (Kristy), and all of his school teachers. Also, a great thank you to all of Casen’s primary doctors who watched over him outside of the hospital (Dr. Ferall, Dr. Wooten, Dr. Phillips, Dr. Bukouski, Dr. Bruehl, Dr. Marshall, Dr. Bradford, and Dr. Narotam).
Casen is preceded in death by his grandmother, Carol A. Hack, and cousin Viola Jo Mayenschein.
Casen is survived by his father, Craig R. Hack; grandfather, Calvin R. Hack, Sr.; uncle, JR Hack (Lori); aunt, Melissa Mayenschein (Ryan); and many cousins.
