“She Loved Nursing”
Carolyn Kapusta was born January 6, 1939 in Sacramento, CA to Charles and Edith (Fort)McEvers. She grew up in Portland, Oregon where she graduated from the University Of Oregon School Of Nursing with a B.S. in nursing. She knew that nursing would afford opportunity to blend caring for others with travel and adventure. After working at the VA hospital in Portland, Carolyn enlisted in the US Army Nurse Corp as a commissioned officer and was assigned to the 93rd Evacuation Hospital in Long Binh, Vietnam, where she worked in Intensive Care Recovery.
Later, Carolyn joined the US Department of State as a Foreign Service nurse with postings to several embassies world-wide including West Africa and Kabul, Afghanistan. In Kabul she met and married Alvin Kapusta, also in the Foreign Service. Returning to the states, Carolyn resumed working in Home Health Care settings and also became a certified wound and ostomy specialist (WOCN), employed at various hospitals in MD. She and Alvin enjoyed spending “off time” at their cabin retreat in the Shenandoah Mountains of VA. They adored genealogy and digging into family roots which took them to many states and across Canada. Carolyn was a member of the Janet Montgomery chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Rockville, MD. She also participated in several international volunteer endeavors including to Europe, Asia and the Middle East. She earned a Master of Public Health degree from Loma Linda University in later years. She loved cooking, studying and playing cards (especially bridge).
Carolyn had a deep faith and was always grateful to the Lord for his lifelong protection and provision. She was an active member of church of the atonement in Silver Springs, MD where she was involved in women’s ministry and Bible study. Carolyn was an attendee at Cary Alliance church where she became involved in Kinship Bible study groups.
Carolyn is survived by her two sons, Victor (Dana) and Paul (Ricarda); Grandson, Alexander; Granddaughter, Caitlin and her cousin Melinda Dorning of Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin and beloved sister, Barbara L. Smith.
