Carole was born on December 23, 1945 in Louisiana, Missouri to the late Robert and Bettye Calnan. Carole cared for her three younger siblings from the time they were born, giving of herself tirelessly and always making sure they came first. Upon graduating from Edina High School, Carole worked for the law firm of Brown & Normile in Edina, Missouri before making her move to Washington D.C, where she continued as a legal secretary. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Roger Giroux, with whom she would share 51 years of marriage. After Roger and Carole welcomed children David and Amy, Carole gladly put her career on hold to dedicate her full time and attention to raising her children. She was an inspiration and steadfast role model for them as she supported them through school, scouts, church and limitless sporting events.
Carole adored spending time with her children and grandchildren most of all, but also enjoyed playing Hand and Foot, completing jigsaw puzzles and reading fiction novels. She was admired for the delicious and intricately decorated cakes that she made for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. Her attention to detail was remarkable, leaving nothing undone. Her friends and family would describe her as extraordinarily calm, patient, quiet and loving, but also as someone who was strong and steadfast in her beliefs and faith. She was the type of person whose presence brought joy and serenity to those around her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers Charles Robert “Bobby” Calnan and Thomas Patrick Calnan and grandniece Destiny Riekeberg.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years, Roger Giroux; son David (Taryn) Giroux; daughter Amy (Richard) Thompson; sister Toni (Derald) Riekeberg; grandchildren Carter, Luke, Sarah, and Owen; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Carole Giroux will be on Friday September 9th at 3 pm at Apex Funeral Home with reception to follow. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be donated to Destiny StrongER(destinystrongER.com), a family foundation established in honor of Carole’s grandniece Destiny Riekeberg.
Fond memories and expressions of condolences can be shared online at apexfuneral.net for the Giroux family.
