Betty Joyce Churchill Burgess

Betty was born June 24, 1944 in Chatham County to the late Bessie Mae Council and Percy Churchill. She worked as a claims processor for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC until her retirement. Betty and her husband enjoyed their retirement home in Swansboro, where they spent quality time with family and friends, along with many fishing trips. She was a member of Lystra Baptist Church in Chapel Hill.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William Burgess, Sr.; brother, Ronald Churchill; and sister, Shirley Hall Holt.

She is survived by her sons, William (Bill) Burgess, Jr. and wife, Dawn and Kenneth Wayne Burgess and wife, Teresa; sisters, Marie Stallings, Sylvia Jean Burgess, Diane Churchill Smith and Carolyn Johnson; three grandchildren, Brandon Burgess, Heather Burgess and Chris Smith; and seven great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held 3pm Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Lystra Baptist Church, 686 Lystra Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27517. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-3pm prior to the service at the church.
