He graduated class of 1959 from LPHS, and then attended St. John’s University for his pre-dental before transferring to the U of M where he graduated with a DDS in 1965. During his dental school years, he belonged to the Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity, where those with whom he shared daily life became life-long friends. After graduation, and in keeping with his family’s tradition of military service, he entered the US Air Force, serving as a Captain. He married in 1966, and after military service, returned to Long Prairie and practiced dentistry with his father until 1981. He and his family then moved to Coon Rapids, opening the ABC Dental Clinic where he practiced dentistry until retirement January 1, 2008.
Bob was the All American Boy – exceptional student, musician, athlete, club golf champion, family man - a personable, kind, gentle and generous man who touched many many lives in a positive way. He had the gift of making people feel comfortable, in the dentist chair and in life. He will be missed for those qualities, and for his smile, sense of humor, and his humming! He remained, to the end, an enthusiastic sports fan of the Johnnies, the Gophers and the Vikings.
Besides his wife and sons, his immediate family also included nine dogs over the years. He had a soft spot for any canine, most especially big dogs – Newfies, Saints and Goldens.
Bob was preceded in death by parents Robert and Angeline, and sister Angela.
He is survived by Polly, his wife of 53 years; children Jim, Mike (Cara) & Bill; brother, Thomas; three nieces, Amy Senn (3 children), Katie Jenkins (4 children) and Tricia Hart; and one nephew, Tom Hart. Bob leaves an admirable legacy to emulate.
Services at a later date, due to stay-at-home.
