Born and raised in Anoka on Jan. 19, 1936. Jim was married to the love of his life for 49 years. They went on to have 10 children, 7 daughters and 3 sons. Early in life Jim learned the importance of hard work at Duerr’s Meat Market in Champlin, and later as a realtor. He instilled that same work ethic in his children. He was a man of strong faith and a lifelong member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Jim faced every challenge in life humbly with courage, and humor.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ellen Billstrom; son Daniel; 2 brothers Don and Bob; son-in-law, David Quam.
Survived by his children, Chris DeZiel (Barry), Laura Dahlheimer (David), Mary Jo Quam, Jane Young (Skip), Sue Talbot (John), Deanna Comeau (Jim), Jim Duerr Jr. (Karen), Joseph Duerr (Mindy), Julie Talbot (Gary); 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation Sunday Oct. 8th from 5-7 pm at Gearhart Anoka Funeral Home (552 East River Road, Anoka). Visitation will continue Monday from 10:00 am until time of Mass at church.
Mass of Christian Burial Monday Oct. 9th at 11:00 am at St Stephen's Church (525 Jackson St., Anoka)
