Alec Johnson, an astrophysicist and mathematician by profession and a
dedicated servant of the poor and needy by vocation, passed into
eternal life December 23, 2014, five days after his 40th birthday.
Alec is survived by his father, Daniel L Johnson; his mother, Isabelle
K. Johnson; his brother, Michael K. Johnson, wife Kim Johnson and
their children Eleanor, Amanda, and Luke; his sister, Marian L.E.
Keillor and her children Analise, Aaron, Miriam and Hanno.
Alec graduated from Menomonie High school in 1992, and received his
PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison,
in 2011. He was currently working at the Catholic University of
Leuven, Belgium on computer modeling to predict the timing and
strength of the effect of solar flares on Northern Lights, the power
grid, computers, and satellites.
From the time he could read, he pursued God with his whole heart and
mind. He crossed ecumenical boundaries in fellowship in the US,
Africa, and Europe. He understood that we each come to God in our own
way, but not on our own terms. He sponsored primary students in China,
and primary, secondary, and university students in Africa. He worked
with Ugandan farmers on sustainable farming in the Erussi Farmers
Association.
