William J Hicks Jr.

Alexandria – William Jackson Hicks died Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. with visitation from 12-2 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Rick Reaves, Rev. Howard Henegar, and Rev. Ken Henegar. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn in Golden Springs.

Mr. Hicks was born and raised in Choccolocco, AL and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Winn Dixie and Lee Brass. He was a true example of a family man who loved his wife, children, and grandchildren with all his heart and enjoyed spending his free time with them. His favorite hobby was playing the guitar, and he learned to play early in his childhood. He was truly a natural and was known to be the best rhythm and bass players around. He had many great friends he played music with and was a member of several bands throughout his life including Saks Quartet, Oakridge, Songs of Victory, Second Chance, Leatherwood/Heritage, Calcounty Boys, R.B. Music Makers that aired on Anniston T.V. Station 40, and Roust Abouts. He finished his country western music career with the Country Travelers. He was an avid member of Hill Crest Baptist Church and deeply loved his church family. He was a friend to everyone he came in contact with and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He leaves behind his precious wife of 55 years, Melda (Henegar) Hicks; his daughters, Sherree Brown (Jerry), Janna Ward (Kevin); Grandchildren Chrissa Brown, Kaelyn Ward, and Colton Brown (Clancy). He is preceded in death by his parents William and Mallie Hicks; sisters, Edna Mae Andrews, Frances Jordon, Lillian Faulkner; brothers, Lawrence, Bryant, Weldon, Maurice, Leonard Hicks.

Pallbearers will be Colton Brown, Stacey Henegar, Ken Henegar, Kjell Henegar, Rod Henegar, and Roger Hicks. The honorary pallbearers will be Travis Fleming, Lilborn Thomas, Doug Mims, Gwin Harrelson, Mike Drummond, Wayne Reaves, Dick Berry, Jim Norton, Bill Oliver, and other musician friends.
