Terry Laverl Burkett

May 20, 1962-Sept 26, 2024

Terry was born to John Robert and Doris (Maroney) Burkett on May 20, 1962. Terry fought a two year battle with cancer until he couldn’t fight any longer and came face to face with his Savior Jesus Christ on September 26, 2024.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeanette Marie Burkett as well as grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Terry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Diane, and his two sons Bobby (Casey) Fitch and Russell (Leslie) Fitch all of whom he loved. He was a loving PawPaw that adored and spoiled his grandchildren, Romona (Shay), Christian (Hayden), Dalton (Aleah), Kayleigh, Hannah, and the baby of the bunch Alanah. Terry was looking forward to being PawPaw and spoiling his great grandkids Olivia Presley, Raelynn Fitch, and Everlee Fitch. He made sure they knew they were Punks up to the end. Terry never had biological children but he loved and raised those rootie poohs Bobby and Russell like his own sons. He taught them to hunt, fish, and to grow up to be great husbands and fathers. Terry deeply loved his wife, his sons, and all the grandkids and great grandkids.

Terry is also survived by 3 brothers, Chris (Debra), Scott (Tonya), and John (Lesilee) and a sister Donna Jo (Rick). There are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends left missing him but knowing he’s in a better place and not in pain.

Terry was a proud US Navy veteran and a carpenter by trade. He loved hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and NASCAR. Before his health declined, Terry enjoyed planting a garden and sharing vegetables with friends and family every year but the thing he enjoyed the most was being with or talking to his sons and grandkids. There’s a hole in everyone’s heart now and we ask for your prayers.

The family would like to thank Dr G. Stevens, Dr Ladipo, their staffers, the doctors and staff at the Anniston Cancer Center and the staff in the ER and ICU of RMC for their care of Terry in his last days.

Terrys wishes were to be cremated. There is no service planned at this time.
