Mr. Whittington’s family will welcome loved ones and visitors on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 10:00 until 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 am, at Silver Chapel Christian Harmony Fellowship Church, Buckner Circle, Fort McClellan, Alabama, with Bro Eric Snider officiating.
Mr. Whittington is survived by daughters Katrina Patterson of Georgia, Cindy Woodard and husband Phillip of Oxford, and Heather Franklin of Florida; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; sister Sheryl Tillman, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maude Whittington; son, Seth Whittington; daughter-in-law Cathy Whittington; sons-in-law Danny Patterson and Charles Franklin; brothers, Wesley Whittington and Wayne Whittington, and sister Louise Wigington.
Born and raised in Mississippi to Clinton and Dovie Jane Whittington, Mr. Whittington attended the University of Southern Mississippi majoring in music, then enlisted in the Army, serving at posts in Munich and Fulda, Germany; Fort McClellan, Alabama twice; Fort McPherson, Georgia; Korea; Fort Devens, Massachusetts; Fort Monroe, Virginia; retiring after 22 years of service. Mr. Whittington graduated from Jacksonville State University with a degree in Art.
Mr. Whittington married the love of his life in 1958 and had celebrated 63 years of marriage only a few months before his beloved Maude passed away in 2021. He was the finest example of a devoted family man, and a friend to all. Multi-talented and always engaged in everything going on around him locally and around the world, he served his country and his Lord, active in church life and always first to volunteer when and wherever help was needed, and was well known for his outgoing, generous, and fun personality. He was a faithful member of Harmony Christian Fellowship Church at Silver Chapel.
Mr. Whittington will be remembered for his enthusiasm for sharing the Gospel, for his amazing musical gifts; mastering every brass instrument, as well as playing several string instruments and piano. He loved classical and band music. His paintings and artwork are priceless treasures to all who are blessed to own them. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his yard, landscaping and growing vegetables.
We will grieve deeply for him, but we are rejoicing in our hearts as we grieve, for we know exactly where we will find him one day, safely at home with his Savior and loved ones.
