Mindrel was born January 12th, 1931 to Tillman and Mary Dyar. She loved to work in her flower beds and gardening, as well as take care of her own yard work, up until she was around 90 years old and was no longer able.
Mindrel was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church in Blue Mountain. She retired from the Anniston Star in May 1993 as a carrier in several districts. She was a substitute for a few years, then transferred to a permanent route in Alexandria for the next 20 years. It was estimated she had delivered approximately 2.3 million papers.
Prior to paper routes, she cooked, cleaned houses and ironed for various people. She tended to neighborhood children for their working parents. She was always a strict but great and loving mom to every child she tended to.
She is survived by her children, Marcal Turner, Shirley Blackmon (Ben), of Alexandria, Terry Turner (Debra) of Oxford. Also a special mom to Elaine Fondren and Donna Brown of Alexandria. Grandchildren, Dustin Fraser of Wellington, Sherry Sparks (Paul) of Jacksonville, Steven Howard (Tracy) of Alexandria, Kelly Howard of Wisconsin, Brandi Smith (Neal) of Lincoln, Jerrod Bean (Brooke) of Anniston, Summer Turner of Alexandria, Cameron Turner of Oxford, Jessica Spears (Blake) of Wellborn, Connie Mayne of Jacksonville, 21 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her husband of 53 years, Curtis Turner; 2 daughters, Judy Turner, of Anniston, Barbara Stevens of Alexandria; 2 sons-in-law, Jerry Fraser of Anniston, Phillip Stevens of Alexandria; 1 daughter-in-law, Michelle Turner; 2 brothers, Noel J. Dyar of West Palm Beach, Florida, Wilson Kemp of Wellborn; 1 sister, Lovella Gardner of Alexandria; grandson, Jason Bean; 2 great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mindrel Turner, will be Wednesday, August 30th, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with Rev. Andy Brown and Rev. Earl Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Baptist Cemetery in Alexandria, AL. The family would like to welcome friends at 11:00 a.m. prior to service time.
Pallbearers will be Alex Howard, Colby Howard, Steven Howard, Corey Brown, Jerrod Bean, and Kevin Bridges.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dylan Raney, Cameron Turner, Gavyn Walker, Dusty Fraser, Neal Smith.
