Mildred Jean Atherton

January 19, 1938 – October 10, 2024

Mildred “Mama” Jean Atherton, 86, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, at home with family. Born on January 19, 1938, Jean was a dedicated member of The National Racking Horse Association for over 50 years. She was a beloved and respected figure in the community. Her passion for horses and her love for the sport will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Jean was a devoted member of Weaver Congregational Holiness Church for more than 40 years, where she served as Deacon for three terms. Her unwavering faith, kindness, and dedication to her church family left a lasting impact on the congregation and the community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Richard Atherton; her parents, Luther Paul and Bessie Hayes; sister, Cora Nell Clifton; and brother, Charles Hayes.

Jean is survived by her three children: Tony Drummond (Rhonda), Tonya Wade, and Todd Atherton (Janet). She is also lovingly remembered by her 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren

Jean’s legacy of love, faith, and dedication will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those she touched during her long and fulfilling life.
