Linda was born on 2 July 1946 in Ohatchee, AL. She was the fifth of ten children in the Haynes family and remained close to her siblings throughout her life. She graduated from Ohatchee High School in 1964 and later met Mark Wayne Clark of Morganton, NC while working for AT&T. They married on 19 December 1970 and had one daughter, Cristal Nicole Clark on 21 September 1979.
A dedicated wife and mother, Linda supported her husband during a 30-year career with the U.S. Air Force and the Georgia Air National Guard which included mobilization for Operation Desert Storm. She also supported her daughter through a 20-year career with the U.S. Air Force which included three combat deployments, two overseas tours, and ten permanent changes of station.
Linda was a lifelong disciple of Christ known for having a “hotline to God.” When Linda prayed, God answered. She faithfully attended church, generously gave tithes and offerings, diligently prayed for friends and family, and dutifully endeavored to model Christian love to those around her. Linda wept with joy when seeing the Holy City of Jerusalem on pilgrimage in November 2017. She leaves behind several well-worn Bibles and a library of spiritual study aids.
Linda was also a devoted cat mom who never met a stray that she couldn’t win over. She leaves behind five cats who prospered under her care. Hobo was taken in after a life of street fighting and never left her side once becoming a house cat. Gus was left behind in poor health when neighbors moved away and became a brand new man under Linda’s ministration. Missy and Bubba moved in after deciding they would rather not live with the neighbors. Bailey, the newest addition, only recently discovered the joys of domestication under Linda’s care. A sixth stray, who has not yet earned a name, was in the works.
Linda leaves behind her husband, Mark; daughter, Cristal; and five siblings, MacArthur, Carolyn, Winston, Diane, and Terry. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own children and grandchildren. She is welcomed into heaven by four siblings who preceded her in death by, Shirley, Jerome, Velista, and Larry, and many beloved pets who were blessed by her gentle heart and caring hands.
